3 Ways to Enjoy Fall Farm Fun with Your Family

Who gets to pick the pumpkin? Who’s leading the way through the corn maze? A fall afternoon on the farm usually comes with a few family debates and plenty of laughs. Here are three ways to get outside and enjoy the season in Lancaster County.

1. Pick a Pumpkin for your Porch

Head to Cherry Hill Orchards in Lancaster and let everyone choose a pumpkin of their own. Will the kids go for the biggest one they can carry or a little one they can paint? Once everyone has settled on a favorite, stop in the farm market for a few treats to take home. Just check the current picking schedule before heading out.

2. Let the Kids Lead the Way

Put the family’s sense of direction to the test at Cherry Crest Adventure Farm in Ronks. Its five-acre corn maze has winding paths, bridges and clues to help you find your way. Take turns choosing which direction to go and see whether the grown-ups really do know best. Leave time for the farm’s slides, pedal carts and other activities afterward.

3. Spend Some Time with the Farm Animals

For kids who would rather meet a goat than solve a maze, try The Amish Farm and House along Route 30. Its 45-minute Farm Animal Fun Tour gives families a closer look at life on the farm. Depending on availability, activities may include gathering eggs, feeding animals or cuddling baby goats. Wear shoes you don’t mind getting a little dirty.

Before you go

Check each farm’s current hours, ticket options and activity availability. Pick one outing, bring a jacket and let the kids help plan the afternoon.
