Visit Lancaster’s Original Amish House and Farm
Your trip to Amish Country isn’t complete without a visit to America’s first Amish attraction, The Amish Farm and House!
Expert guides at The Amish Farm and House have been educating visitors and tour groups about the Amish way of life since 1955. Once you visit, you will have a much better understanding and appreciation for the Amish and their lifestyle and culture. Offering guided tours of the Amish countryside and an authentic 1805 farmhouse, the Amish Farm and House provides a fun and educational opportunity for the whole family.
Tour an Authentic Amish Farmhouse
On a guided Amish house tour, guests will discover an informative view of the Old Order Amish lifestyle. As you walk room-by-room through an original, centuries-old Amish farmhouse, guests take a respectful and authentic look into Amish culture. The house tour provides the opportunity to learn more about how the Amish hold worship services in their homes (they don’t have church buildings), and how their faith affects other aspects of their lives. Learn about Amish schools and education, and how their communities adapt to our modern society. Your knowledgeable tour guide will also explain Amish clothing styles, other distinctive features of the Amish lifestyle, and will answer your questions about Amish life.
The gift shop offers locally made products for sale, such as Amish made quilts, Amish dolls, handmade wooden products, candles, locally-made jams, jellies, and other food products, Amish related books, and lots more.
Tour an Amish Farm; Feed our Animals
On a self-guided tour, find out about other facets of Amish culture on a walk around our 15-acre farm. Our farm includes an authentic one-room schoolhouse, an Amish-style scooter run, lime kiln, a bake oven, a summer kitchen, a smoke house, a milk house, a chicken house, an herb garden, a windmill and waterwheels, and a cow milking simulation for the kids.
You’ll find a number of farm animals in our barn and meadows. They may vary year to year or by season, but you’ll often find goats, pigs, turkeys, miniature horse, donkeys, steers, alpacas, and more.
Ever wonder what it is like to be a farmer? Be a farmer for the day and join our Farm Animal Fun tour! Go beyond the fence and cuddle with our baby goats, brush our donkeys and help us collect eggs. Be prepared to get a little dirty, have a lot of fun and learn something new.
You’ll also find various artisans and vendors displaying their crafts at The Amish Farm and House, including a wood carver, a blacksmith, a rope maker, and others. However, not every artisan will be available every day.
Included with your admission is free use of our picnic pavilion and picnic area. You are welcome to bring your lunch or bring takeout meals from a local restaurant. Enjoy a peaceful, relaxing meal with your family or group.
Tour the One-Room Amish Schoolhouse
The Willow Lane One-Room Schoolhouse here is the only one-room school opened specifically for the public to give visitors an inside view of Amish schools. Learn from a former Amish teacher what it’s like to attend an Amish school. Inside, you’ll find a working gas stove and gas lights, artwork by Amish children, and much more.
Take a Guided Bus Tour of the Amish Country
Hop on one of our mini-buses and join our knowledgeable drivers for a tour of the Amish countryside. As you enjoy the scenic beauty of the back roads of Amish Country, our guides will explain how the Amish live today, as they describe what you are seeing out the window. The Countryside Bus Tour lasts 90 minutes and drivers typically shop at Amish stores or roadside stands along the way (not available on Sundays and Amish holidays). On this tour, you’ll see and learn about Amish schools, Amish farms and culture, and covered bridges. Tours are offered daily. Please call ahead for reservations for the bus tour.
