In an escape room, 6-10 players are locked in a room together. The goal is simple – figure out how to escape. They have to work together to find clues and solve puzzles in order to escape within the allotted time period, often one hour.
The games often revolve around a story or a period in history, and assume a fictional location, such as a prison cell or a dungeon. The clues are usually follow the theme of the room. Puzzles might include hidden objects, assembling pieces of an object, solving riddles, or deciphering codes.
Some locations offer participants different escape rooms from which to choose. Often there is an age limit for participants. Reservations are usually required, so be sure to call ahead.
There is usually an emergency exit available if someone needs to leave. However, they may not be allowed to rejoin their group if they leave.
