Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant & Smorgasbord to reopen August 28

Bird-in-Hand, PA – The Bird-in-Hand Family Restaurant & Smorgasbord will reopen Thursday, August 28, at 11 a.m. after being closed for more than a year due to a January 2024 kitchen fire. Located at 2760 Old Philadelphia Pike, the restaurant will initially offer its famous smorgasbord for lunch and dinner, Tuesday through Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Beginning September 11, breakfast will also return, with buffets served from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Menu service will be added later.

During reconstruction, the restaurant and the Bird-in-Hand Stage temporarily operated in Paradise, with the stage reopening at its original site this April. Since then, the restaurant has served limited meals for tour groups while renovations continued.

President and CEO John E. Smucker, II expressed gratitude to the community, staff, and guests for their patience and support. Diners will find several updates, including a larger hot buffet designed for smoother flow, a permanent carving station, expanded dessert bar, reconfigured salad bar, and the popular Noah’s Ark kids’ buffet. Traditional Pennsylvania Dutch favorites remain, alongside new daily specials.
