Special Exhibits and Events at Lancaster County Museums

Come explore the history and stories behind Lancaster County in a fascinating way at Museum Fest 2013. This three-month-long special event takes place from September through November at 20 of our Lancaster County museums.

You’ll find special events and exhibits that the whole family will enjoy. Some of the events are free or offer a special rate.

This is a special opportunity for Lancaster County residents and visitors alike to explore many of our fascinating local museums. Museum Fest is an initiative of the Museum Council of Lancaster County.

September Events:

  • Sept. 1 – 30 –  Wright’s Ferry Mansion – Historic home tours Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays.
  • Sept. 1 – 30 – North Museum of Natural History & Science – Pay What You Will Month, admission to the Museum and Planetarium by donation throughout the month of September.
  • Sept. 1  –  Manheim Historical Society – Railroad station and trolley tours.
  • Sept. 7 – Ephrata Cloister – Founders’ Day, admission cost $1.
  • Sept. 8  –  Manheim Historical Society – Railroad station and trolley tours.
  • Sept. 12 – Phillips Museum of Art – Curator’s Lecture and Opening Reception: “Hudson River to Niagara Falls: 19th Century American Landscape Paintings from the New-York Historical Society” presented by Linda Ferber.
  • Sept. 14 – 1719 Hans Herr House and Museum – Historic Tour: Drive, bike, or walk to historic sites in Lampeter, PA.
  • Sept. 14 – Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum – Wool Frolic: fiber art celebration.
  • Sept. 15  –  Manheim Historical Society – Railroad station and trolley tours
  • Sept. 19 – North Museum of Natural History & Science – Sensory Friendly Mornings for children with autism.
  • Sept. 22  –  Manheim Historical Society – Railroad station and trolley tours
  • Sept. 23 – Lancaster Mennonite Historical Society – Annual Storytelling Night featuring LMHS archivist Carolyn Wenger and Old Order River Brethren Bishop David Sauder.
  • Sept. 28 – Hands-On House Children’s Museum of Lancaster – Half Marathon, 10K, 5K and Kids’ Adventure Challenge.
  • Sept. 28 – 29 – LancasterHistory.org – Civil War Encampment, Free Event
  • Sept. 29  –  Manheim Historical Society – Railroad station and trolley tours

October Events:

  • Oct. 3 – 4 – Historic Rock Ford – Tales from the Caretakers: The Haunted History of Rockford.
  • Oct. 5North Museum of Natural History & Science – New Exhibit Opening: “Great Balls of Fire: Comets, Asteroids and Meteors”.
  • Oct. 5 – 1719 Hans Herr House and Museum – Snitz Fest, early American food, crafts and farm life festival.
  • Oct. 6 – Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania – Garden Railways Tour.
  • Oct. 10 – 11 – Historic Rock Ford – Tales from the Caretakers: The Haunted History of Rockford.
  • Oct. 12 – Boehm’s Chapel – Apple Festival, Free Event.
  • Oct. 12Ephrata Cloister – Day of Music, music heritage and performances.
  • Oct. 12 – 13Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum – Harvest Days with demonstrations, crafts, food and wagon rides.

  • Oct. 16 – National Toy Train Museum – Open House with Lionel and MTH toy trains, free event.
  • Oct. 17 – 18 – Historic Rock Ford – Tales from the Caretakers: The Haunted History of Rockford.
  • Oct. 18 – 19 – Ephrata Cloister – “Mysterious, Melancholy and Macabre” unusual and ghostly storytelling.
  • Oct. 19 – 20 – Conestoga Area Historical Society – Harvest Festival, free event

  • Oct. 25National Watch & Clock Museum – Family Sleepover: “A Night of Time Travel”.
  • Oct. 25 – 26 – Ephrata Cloister – “Mysterious, Melancholy and Macabre” unusual and ghostly storytelling.
  • Oct. 26 – Historic Rock Ford – 4th Annual Headless Horseman’s Ball costumes-optional party.
  • Oct. 26 – 1719 Hans Herr House and Museum – “What Thanksgiving Means to Native People”.
