***Starts October 24th & 25th 2026***
The Experience
Whether you choose to focus on the precision of the throttle or the rhythmic art of the shovel, you’ll be responsible for keeping a piece of history in motion.
Choose Your Role
The Engineer: Take the throttle in hand. You’ll learn to manage the delicate balance of steam pressure and traction, feeling the raw power of the locomotive respond to your touch. Under the DSLE’s watchful eye, you’ll master the starts, the stops, and the subtle “talk” of the engine.
The Fireman: The heart of the engine is the firebox, and you are its guardian. You’ll learn the technique of feeding the beast —maintaining the ideal fire bed and monitoring water levels to ensure the engineer has the power they need to tackle the line.
What to Expect
One-on-One Mentorship: Your DSLE isn’t just a supervisor; they are a veteran of the rails. They will provide real-time coaching on safety, technical operation, and the unique quirks of our specific historic fleet.
Authentic Environment: Expect the heat of the boiler, the smell of coal smoke, and the mechanical symphony of pistons and rods. This is a gritty, visceral, and deeply rewarding challenge.
Safety First: Before touching the controls, you’ll receive a comprehensive safety briefing to ensure you’re prepared for the dynamic environment of a working cab.
A steam engine is a living thing. It breathes, it groans, and it has a personality all its own. Today, you aren’t just a passenger—you’re the pulse of the machine.
Prerequisites
Must be 18 years or older with a valid drivers license.
