Lancaster PA Selected One of the “10 Best Small Towns for the Holidays”

Posted in Happenings on by .

Lancaster County has made another Top Ten list. This time Lancaster was selected as one of the “10 Best Small Towns for the Holidays”, as determined by SmarterTravel.com.

The website has selected ten American towns and villages that offer small town celebrations and holiday experiences reminiscent of “It’s a Wonderful Life”, complete with town squares lit up with Christmas lights, horse-drawn carriages, Christmas carolers, and more. Their story talks about small towns and villages that are “perfect for the holidays”.

Why did they include Lancaster in this list? Situated amid the rolling hills of the Amish farmlands, Lancaster is described as a festive town that offers a variety of Christmas events through New Year’s Day, including horse drawn carriage rides, the downtown Christmas tree lighting ceremony and its tuba accompaniment, carolers at the Central Market, and breakfast with Santa. Most of these activities are either free or low cost.

Well, Lancaster does have all that and a whole bunch more going on in celebration of Christmas.  See our Christmas in Lancaster page for ongoing events for all ages throughout the holidays. And for a day by day schedule of holiday events, see our Christmas Calendar of Events listings.

Other towns that made their top ten list for the holidays include:

  • Skaneateles, New York
  • Santa Claus, Indiana
  • Solvang, California
  • Woodstock, Vermont
  • North Pole, Alaska
  • Greenville, South Carolina
