Start your new year off laughing with friends to see The Savannah Sipping Society now – February 15 at the Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre. While Dutch Apple usually puts on musicals, we ease into the new year with a comedic play about four unique Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines, who are drawn together by fate and an impromptu happy hour. Together they decide its high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years.
The Savannah Sipping Society is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten, who are known for writing roles for strong female characters. Randa is a perfectionist and workaholic, who is struggling to cope with a surprise career derailment that, unfortunately, reveals she has no life and no idea how to get one; Dot is reeling from her husband’s recent demise and the loss of their plans for an idyllic retirement while facing the unsettling prospect of starting a new life from scratch; MarlaFaye is a good ol’ Texas gal who has blasted into Savannah in the wake of losing her tom-cattin’ husband to a twenty-three-year-old dental hygienist; and Jinx is a spunky ball of fire who offers her services as a much-needed life coach for the women, however, blinded by her determination and efforts to get their lives back on track, she overlooks the fact that she’s the one most in need of sage advice.
Over the course of six months, filled with laughter, hilarious misadventures, and the occasional liquid refreshment, these middle-aged women successfully bond and find the confidence to jumpstart their new lives. Together, they discover lasting friendships and a renewed determination to live in the moment – and most importantly – realize it’s never too late to make new old friends.
Don’t miss The Savannah Sipping Society at Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre January 9 – February 15. Performances are Tuesday through Sunday evenings with selected matinees. Adult dinner and show ticket prices range from $60 to $69. Child dinner and show pricing is available for just $25 for children under 12 and $30 for students ages 13-18.
