Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre concert series welcomes MO5AIC
On March 24 and 25, 2019, Dutch Apple Dinner Theatre Concert Series welcomes MO5AIC to the stage. This five-man vocal band creates music without instruments. They have worked with Jay Leno, Prince, Justin Timberlake and has been hailed as, “the best vocal group I’ve ever heard,” by the legendary Tony Bennett. This innovative vocal collaboration combines elements of funk, pop, rock, jazz, R&B and even opera to create a musical experience produced entirely by human voices. They’ve been featured on America’s Got Talent, MTV and NBC’s The Sing-Off. You simply won’t believe what comes out of their mouths!
The genre of vocally created music has come a long way in the past decade. While a cappella music has begun to interest the masses, MO5AIC represents a much different face of the a cappella experience – and one that is not easily definable. They use the term “a cappella” to describe their sound, but not as a way to attempt to draw distinction. In fact, they’d like people to completely forget about that aspect. For MO5AIC, the voice is the instrument. It’s the raw starting point for the sound. The way the voices are arranged, tweaked and manipulated are how they define their sound. The way they choose to amplify, distort or alter the voice is really no different than how a guitar player might use a distortion pedal or effects bank. The voice is the block to build upon. In this regard, MO5AIC is a hybrid between a band and an a cappella group. At its core, it is vocally driven music that could sonically hold its own next to any full instrumentation.
